Luxury hotel and travel company Belmond is to launch its first London property in February 2019, and it’s not just any hotel, it’s the Cadogan
Belmond Cadogan Hotel, as it’s now known, has long played an integral role in the cultural history of Kensington and Chelsea. The hotel’s legendary connections include pioneering explorer and scientist Sir Hans Sloane, flamboyant writer Oscar Wilde, and actress Lillie Langtry.
The £36.6 million project will restore the unique heritage of the Queen Anne Revival property, which dates from 1887, while fully renovating the property in a contemporary style to create one of London’s most exclusive retreats.
In its new guise, the luxury hotel will draw inspiration from the neighborhood’s character, offering a meeting place for both guests and the local community. A ‘home away from home’ on Sloane Street, it offers the best of two of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods – Chelsea and Knightsbridge – as well as contemporary British cuisine by Chef Patron Adam Handling and over 400 pieces of original artwork.
‘All the excitement of this world-class city will be right outside their doorstep, while travellers are tucked inside this intimate and historic property, where understated elegance is coupled with personalised service. This exquisite new hotel will provide a sophisticated retreat for those wishing to relax and recharge.’
‘Guests at Belmond Cadogan Hotel will feel as though they have their own exclusive residence in London’
The hotel will have 54 rooms, two-thirds of which are suites, some featuring original fireplaces. Each guest will have access to a discreet entrance from 21 Pont Street, so the hotel may be used as a private residence (you’ll be offered a key so you can come and go quietly).
Belmond Cadogan Hotel faces the private Cadogan Place Gardens, where guests can enjoy a picnic or play tennis. The property also offers a 24-hour fitness suite, spa, library and dedicated menus and in-room amenities for young guests.
The main restaurant will feature an open kitchen providing a window onto the chef’s theatre. The Bar and Terrace, accessed directly from Pont Street, is set to become a local favourite, featuring drinks and lighter bites. The Tea Lounge will offer Handling’s specially crafted tea service.
‘Chef Patron Adam Handling, recognised as a rising culinary star for his exceptional cuisine that marries daring flavours with out-of-the ordinary techniques, will showcase contemporary British cuisine’
Belmond Cadogan Hotel is the brand’s first and only hotel in London, complemented by their existing UK portfolio, which includes the Belmond British Pullman vintage train, departing from Victoria Station, Belmond Royal Scotsman sleeper train and Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire. You can even enjoy a seamless Belmond experience around the British Isles, a town-and-country package, or a journey on the legendary Venice Simplon Orient Express.
The hotel is celebrating its opening with a special offer available only to guests who reserve their stay through an advisor affiliated with leading global luxury travel network, Virtuoso. Book between 1 February and 30 Apr 2019 for a guaranteed suite upgrade at the time of reservation upon availability. After that date, the hotel will provide an upgrade upon arrival if available.
