Walthamstow to Launch Its Own Winter Wonderland

Sadly, this event has been cancelled.

A statement from the team says: ‘It is with deep regret and due to circumstances out of our control the winter wonderland concept with an ice rink and bar won’t be coming to Walthamstow this Christmas.

‘In it’s place we’ll still be running a German market with events and entertainment alongside our Walthamstow Sunday Social event every Sunday. Please stay tuned for more information on our German market.

We are extremely disappointed we were not given the chance to run the event we promised to.’

Walthamstow Winter Wonderland will launch this Christmas as Waltham Forest gears up to be the first London Borough of Culture in 2019

London’s eastward trajectory continues as Walthamstow puts itself on the map this festive season with the launch of a major new Winter Wonderland experience. The ambitious new community event is set to welcome up to 40,000 people per day with street food, an ice rink, a Christmas market, festive entertainment and Santa’s grotto.

The Wonderland will settle itself into Walthamstow Town Square Gardens, just a few minutes walk from Walthamstow Central station, with a real ice rink under a starry sky of twinkling fairy lights. After a skate, you’ll be able to browse the Christmas market, with stalls offering crafts, gifts, local-made specialities, food, drinks, clothing and art.

Organisers have called in some of London’s best street food vendors including ELOTE, Makatcha, Tico’s Hotdogs, Carpe Diem Pizzas, The Grilling Greek, The Toasty Badger, Smokoloko, Beyroot, Sweet Nothing Bakehouse and Yorkshire Burrito.

Meanwhile, the Umbrella Bar & Stage will offer seasonal drinks and cocktails designed by The Umbrella Project (Discount Suit Company, The Sun Tavern, Umbrella Brewing, Casa Pueblo Tulum), complete with soul warming live music and DJs.

‘We can’t wait to bring a quirky, fun and entertaining festive festival back to east London,’ says Pol Gallagher, Creative Director of Walthamstow Winter Wonderland. ‘Waltham Forest is set to be London’s first borough of culture and we can’t wait to kick things off with Walthamstow Winter Wonderland.

We’ll have it all plus a few surprises up our sleeves along the way

‘The team have been working tirelessly to create a unique festive experience set for all ages, from a Santa’s grotto to boozy singalongs with mates. We’ll have it all plus a few surprises up our sleeves along the way.

‘Did we mention it’s all free to enter as well?’

The public grand opening party takes place on Saturday 1 December at 6pm with the Christmas lights switch-on, entertainment, amusements and ice skating. Walthamstow Winter Wonderland will then run daily from 1-28 December (10am-10pm). Entry is free.

Beyond Walthamstow Winter Wonderland, a street food market, aptly named The Sunday Social, launches on Sunday 11 November. The street food festival will take place every Sunday from 10am-5pm along Walthamstow High Street with an array of hearty food, entertainment and winter warmers to keep you toasty.
