Greenwich Peninsula x Dazed is offering free space to the capital’s creative community in the neighbourhood dubbed ‘new London’
On a mission to keep London creative, Greenwich Peninsula launches the Design District Space x Dazed, an open call-out for creatives to win a free workspace for a year in London’s newest cultural neighbourhood.
The Design District, which is due to open in 2020 right by North Greenwich Tube station and the O2 Arena, will be London’s first permanent purpose-built district for the creative industries.
Creative talent can apply via a submissions-based competition on Dazed Digital, detailing their need for space and identifying the impact a physical space in London will have on their work, together with their two-year development plan.
A panel of seven industry experts, spearheaded by Dazed founder Jefferson Hack, and including Dazed editors Thomas Gorton and Ashleigh Kane, alongside artist and curator of Greenwich Peninsula’s NOW Gallery, Jemima Burrill, and CEO of Greenwich Peninsula, Richard Margree, will decide on a maximum of five winners who will be able to move into the rent-free space for a period of 12 months.
‘Dazed has always celebrated and championed emerging creative talent so we are excited to partner on this campaign urging creatives in desperate need of a studio to apply for a free space,’ said Jefferson Hack, CEO and Co-Founder of Dazed Media.
‘In a time when many artists are being driven out of the city due to rising rents it’s more important than ever for artists to be given support so they can strengthen their work and build a business.’
The winners will be announced via and featured on the Dazed online and social media platforms. Come spring 2019, the winning creatives will then be welcomed into the Design District Space, a cluster of studio spaces situated across from the developing Design District.

Creating the same community ethos that the Design District will offer, the spaces will be shared and connected, allowing the winning creatives to interact, learn and collaborate. Over the year, Dazed will continue to profile and document each creative’s progress via their editorial and social platforms to provide increased visibility to support the growth of their business.
How to enter
Creatives and artists will be invited to submit their personal work and explain, in 1,000 characters, why you need the space and how it will impact your work, as well as sharing a two-year development plan for your trajectory. Find the online form here.
The creatives submitting their work must not be represented by a gallery or an agent and not currently studying.
The competition runs from 11 January until 7 February 2019.
More about the Design District
In keeping with the London Mayor’s agenda to ensure the city remains an attractive and affordable hub for creatives, the Design District at Greenwich Peninsula will provide a permanent base for over 1,800 of London’s creatives in a range of architect-designed workspaces.
Space in the Design District will be made affordable with capped rents, averaging at £25 per sq ft and starting from £10 per sq ft for workshop space.
An ambitious architectural project in itself, the Design District will consist of 16 buildings housing studio spaces, workshops, showrooms, shops, flexible desk space and a food court, connected by pedestrian streets and an intimate network of lanes.
Visitors will also be able to explore ‘open house’ workshops, terraces, cafe and a rooftop basketball court, as well as retail design studios featuring rotating work from the district on display.
